A ROO IN MY SUITCASE, WANSTEAD LIBRARY

A show with poems, songs and lots of audience participation that celebrates friendship, difference and newness. Suitable for children aged 3- 7pm (with babies under 12 months admitted free if they sit on parents laps).

OLIVER JEFFERS WEEK, DISCOVER CENTRE

Oliver Jeffers real life rocket at Discover Centre Stratford

If you have any books by the wonderful author and illustrator Oliver Jeffers then you’ll know just how captivating his creations are. The Discover centre has created an interactive family exhibition called Once There Was… The Wonderful World of Oliver Jeffers to celebrate the 10th birthday of the classic How to Catch a Star (a firm favourite with our little one). The exhibition brings his books to life with scenes that you can play in and there are also storytelling events and crafting sessions for older children throughout the week.

Price: £5 for exhibition and activities vary, advance booking advisable

MONDAY 25 – FRIDAY 29 May 15

ALICE IN WONDERLAND WEEK, V&A MUSEUM OF CHILDHOOD BETHNAL GREEN

To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the publication of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, there’s a whole week of activity at this fab museum in Bethnal Green. Each day there will be story telling, dressing up, making and activities based on the classic book. Lots of activities are free and suitable for all ages but some activities have a small charge. For example, if your children are between 5 – 12 years old they can take part on Mad Hatter’s Hat Making for £5 or a Playing Card Print Workshop for the same price.

Price: Free but some activities cost £5

WEDNESDAY 27 MAY

HARTBEEPS DISCO AT THE MANOR HOUSE, WANSTEAD

Bring your little ones along for a boogie to help raise money for the Wanstead Playground Association. (You can read about the Association’s work to renovate Wanstead playground in this interview.) There will be two sessions, the first one at 10.30 am is for children who are toddling to 4 years and the Babybeeps session at 11.30am is for those who are kids who are sitting to toddling. There will also be a raffle on the day.

WEDNESDAY 27 & 28 MAY

CAPTAIN FLINN & THE PIRATE DINOSAURS, SOUTHBANK CENTRE

Captain Flinn and the Pirate Dinosaurs

This children’s play at the Queen Elizabeth Hall looks like great fun. It’s a pirate adventure with puppets and music featuring Captain Stubble who needs Flinn’s help to recover his stolen ship. And there’s also some dastardly dinosaurs on the loose causing havoc. The play is suitable for kids from 4 years old and upwards and booking in advance is advised.

Performances are Wednesday 27 May at 2pm and Thursday 28 May at 11am & 2pm.

THURSDAY 28 MAY

BE A SUPERHERO! WANSTEAD LIBRARY

Create a super cape, shield and mask to transform yourself into SuperMan, Batman or SuperGirl. From 2.30pm, you will get to create 2 to 3 items during the 60 minute session which is being held in conjunction with The Creation Station.

Price: £1.75, you will need to book in advance with the library 020 8708 7400.
