About West Essex Mums

Collecting conkers in Wanstead Park

It turns out that you can be in denial about being a new mum for quite a while. When they’re small, they’re pretty portable and you can still park them in a pub beer garden and strap them in a buggy while you hit the shops. But as they get older, and more active, there’s a whole new and confusing world to navigate of playgroups, parks and cafes that will tolerate The Little One squishing rice cakes into the chairs. As I’m fairly new to both the mum thing and Woodford Green, I turned to the internet to provide some advice on how to navigate the local area with a small person. And as I couldn’t find that information in one place, I decided to try to create a local blog as a resource for families… well obviously I didn’t have enough to do with a job and small child.

So here it is, an attempt to give news and reviews of what there is for kids and families in Woodford Green, South Woodford, Wanstead, Snaresbrook, Loughton and Epping. And armed with an Oyster card, we’ll also cover London and we’ll take the trusty, rust-bucket we call a car to the M25, seeking out countryside and outdoorsy things in Essex, Surrey Kent and beyond. We’ll look at kids classes, family activities, children’s shops, parks, day trips, events, soft play hell holes and anything else I think might be interesting or inspiring.

The reason I’ve called this West Essex Mums is that this isn’t just about our little family, I want this to be a genuinely useful resource for all local mums, dads and families so please feel free to get in touch with recommendations, questions, suggestions of places or things that you want to know more about and I’ll investigate for you.

I’m Dana and I live in Woodford Green with The Little One (almost 4 years old), No.2 (now almost a year!) and the boyfriend (he doesn’t really appreciate being called that after 19 years together and wants something with more gravitas, but frankly it makes me feel young so I’m sticking to it!).

The day job involves digital and social strategy for brands, so I’m PR friendly. Need a mummy blogger opinion? Want a perspective from a local mum? Or want to chat about your products? Feel free to get in touch but be warned I’ll always be honest. Just tweet me @WestEssexMums or email at westessexmums at gmail dot com.
